Veteran actor and filmmaker Sanjay Khan, father of Sussanne Khan, celebrated his birthday on January 3, marking his first birthday since the passing of his wife, Zarine Khan. While fans and well-wishers flooded social media with warm wishes, one message that stood out was from actor Hrithik Roshan, Sanjay Khan’s former son-in-law.

Hrithik, who shares a close bond with his ex-wife Sussanne Khan’s family even after their separation, took to social media to pen a deeply emotional note for Sanjay Khan, lovingly referring to him as “dad.” Hrithik and Sussanne have shown that their extended family continues to stand united, and this birthday tribute was yet another reflection of that bond.

Sharing a series of unseen photos featuring Sanjay Khan, late Zarine Khan, Sussanne Khan, Farah Khan Ali, Zayed Khan, Hrithik’s sons Hrehaan and Hridhaan, his girlfriend Saba Azad, and Sussanne’s partner Arslan Goni, Hrithik reminisced about the invaluable lessons and warmth he received from Sanjay Khan over the years.

In his heartfelt note, Hrithik wrote, “Today on your birthday dad, I want to thank you for always being this giant loving and guiding presence in my life. Thank you for always making me feel more special than I think I am. Of every place I’ve ever known, the one corner I was guaranteed unconditional love was when I was around you and mom.”

Recalling their first meeting, he added, “I still remember the first words you ever said to me—‘Your name begins with H. It means you are meant for great heights, my son.’ I believed it, dad. I believed it because it came from you.”

Hrithik also shared a piece of advice Sanjay Khan gave him during his early acting years that continues to guide him even today. “Before each shot, that moment when the clap covers your face—collect all of you, smile and whisper ‘magic time,’ and then just let it all go. That stayed with me, dad, and I use it till today. Works like magic. Every time.”

Praising Sanjay Khan’s contribution to Indian entertainment, Hrithik wrote, “You have been a pioneer for Indian television. Making a well-researched historical like The Sword of Tipu Sultan long before the internet made research easy—you raised the bar way before OTT. The show continues to be a favourite even today. Truly, nothing stops you, dad. You even cheated death and kept building.”
