JEE Main 2026: Check these scoring topics for IIT/ NIT BTech admission

In order to succeed in JEE Main, students need to develop a study strategy and not just put in a lot of time studying. The scarcity of time and the abundance of information can make it overwhelming for students; therefore, students can greatly improve their overall rankings if they know where to find higher-scoring subject matter.

By analysing the trends of past years’ standard scoring topic PDFs relating to Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, it is clear that the majority of chapters consistently yield high margins for effort versus outcomes and yield high if practised thoroughly.

Physics: Conceptual and Formula-Driven Scorers

Physics generally rewards JEE Main students who demonstrate a clear understanding of concepts and apply physics formulas. Units and Measurements are the simplest area to score, using only dimensional analysis and errors; usually, scaffolding on dimensional analysis and errors, and direct substitutions. Kinematics and Laws of Motion, including gravitational motion and blocks on inclined planes, have established patterns and are often seen repeatedly across years. For example, JEE Main students could study: Horizontal Projectile Motion and Vertical Free Fall; Extents of Gravitational Forces; Impulse Momentum; and Traction and Friction.

Work, Energy and Momentum, and Rotational Motion and Gravitation are all high-yielding topics. In regard to modern physics, questions on the Photoelectric Effect, Bohr’s atomic model, and Semiconductors (Logic Gates) are very much direct theory-based questions that can generate high scores. The topics of Electrostatics, DC Circuits, and Capacitors also form a strong cluster; the numerical questions asked from these three areas of electrostatics, DC Circuit and Capacitor will repeat the same concepts from one year to the next with only slight variations.

Chemistry

Chemistry provides the most scoring potential for students looking to do well on their test. The physical chemistry portion of the course includes many quantitative problems (stoichiometry, thermodynamics, equilibrium-chemical and ionic, kinetics, electro, etc.) but is mostly determined by the formulas the student has memorized. If the student practices frequently and learns how to use the formulas, they will be able to answer the questions efficiently and accurately.

Inorganic Chemistry is focused on questions from the NCERT textbook. The majority of questions from the areas of chemical bonding, coordination compounds, periodic properties, d- and f-block elements, p-block elements, etc., are easy to remember and understand. Memorization and understanding will lead to the best results.

The Organic Chemistry portion of the NCERT textbook provides the majority of the high-scored questions for students. The Basic Organic Chemistry (GOC), Hydrocarbons, Halogenated Hydrocarbons, Alcohols, Aldehydes, Ketones, Amines, etc., are all high-scoring chapters. The following themes have been tested multiple times: Named Reactions, Trends in Acidity, Trends in Basicity, and Mechanisms of Reactions.

Mathematics

Practicing math doesn’t just improve your ability to solve problems, it also enhances your ability to score high in the course.

The value of speed and consistency rewards students in math. The scoring subjects (due to their predictable pattern of question types) include: Matrices & Determinants; Statistics; Vector Algebra; and 3-D Geometry. Straight Lines, Circles, and other basic Conics can also be scored easily with a thorough review of the formulas.

For example, directly formulated Algebra (Algebra Quadratic Equations, Sequences & Series & the Binomial Theorem) questions are also included in the high-scoring subjects. Topics in Calculus, such as Limits, Differential Equations, and Application of Derivatives (Maxima-Minima) require consistent routine practice to achieve success.
