With only a day to go for the CET cell to begin counselling students for admission to professional courses, the state government on Tuesday warned the Consortium of Private Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka ComedK that it will file a contempt of court petition if it rejected the selected students.
8216;8216;We will not stop the admission process, which will begin as scheduled from July 10, for any reason,8217;8217; Higher Education Minister Dr G. Parameshwara said.
The government will go ahead with admissions as per the high court verdict, which upheld the 75:25 per cent seat-sharing formula, and private colleges can8217;t refuse seats to students selected by CET, he said.
Legal action will follow if they deny admissions, including disaffiliation of colleges by universities and derecognition of such institutions under the Karnataka Education Act, the minister said. The colleges that have come together under ComedK have preferred an appeal before the Supreme Court, challenging the Karnataka HC order on seat-sharing and fee structure, but the apex court is yet to admit it.
