For Gagandeep Singh, it was a case of so near and yet so far. But as he heads back home to make way for the one-day specialists, Gagandeep takes back a really big thing: Not a Test cap, but huge words of encouragement from coach John Wright, who has been more than lavish in his praise for Gagandeep and the other reserve paceman, Shib Shankar Paul.

8216;8216;My only message to them Gagan and Paul would be not to get disappointed and remember they have a good future ahead of them. They were prepared to work hard and that has been very good,8217;8217; Wright said as the team celebrated their Test win here.

For his part, 8216;8216;Not at all feeling bad,8217;8217; is what Gagandeep said 8212; with a broad smile 8212; as he prepared to leave.

It was time to catch the flight, but Gagandeep was willing to list his memories of this fortnight with the likes of Sourav Ganguly 038; Co: 8216;8216;When I got selected I could not have asked for anything better than this. I quite enjoyed this experience. Being with the likes of greats like the skipper, Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar was great.8217;8217;

Isn8217;t there a sense of unfulfilment, seeing that there was a good chance he and Paul would play the Chittagong Test; Ganguly had hinted as much after the Dhaka Test? 8216;8216;None whatsoever. Simply because I learnt so much by being part of the team. The amount of planning and hard work required is something that is done in detail at this level. So it was a nice learning curve,8217;8217; Gagandeep said.

Most importantly, said Gagandeep, he got to be a part of a winning side and that itself is a great feeling.

Gagandeep a big wicket-taker in Ranji Trophy has plans of rushing back and playing the next round of Ranji matches for Punjab. In the match starting from December 23, Punjab plays Hyderabad and Gagandeep plans to make it in time for the game.
