Indian doubles ace Mahesh Bhupathi — who played an important role in India’s win in the doubles tie against New Zealand in their just-concluded Davis Cup tie — expressed happiness that his understanding with Leander Paes is still as solid as ever.
Bhupathi teamed up with Paes after a long time, said, ‘‘It was nice to notice that the understanding is still there,’’ said Bhupathi, speaking to The Indian Express.
Any chance the dup will come together in Grand Slams again? Not committing anything, Bhupathi said, ‘‘Yeah we will play again together in April against Japan.’’
His partnership with Belarussian Max Mirnyi has been quite successful as well, though the pair lost in the Australian Open quarterfinals recently. ‘‘Yes, it was disappointing but finally we lost to eventual winners the French pair of Fabrice Santoro and Michael Llorda.’’
As far as the Davis Cup scenario is concerned, Bhupathi said, ‘‘It was great to see that we did well without being at full-strength. It’s a positive sign.”
