AMBALA, May 27: The Ambala police has registered a dowry case on the direction of the court. Shalu Goel, who married Subhash, a resident of Prem Nagar, only a few months ago, complained that her husband, his parents Rameshwar Dass and Hukami Devi, brother-in-law Janak Raj and his wife Anita tortured her for bringing insufficient dowry.

She said that on May 16, her in-laws, who are property dealers, beat her up and tortured her. The next day, they forced her to leave the house and threatened to kill her if she came back without bringing more dowry. Later, Shalu Goel8217;s parents filed a case. Subhash was arrested and released on bail. Other members of the family are at large.

In a similar case, Balwinder Kaur from Machhonda lodged a complaint against her husband and three members of his family for torturing her for dowry. The police have registered a case and started investigating.
