One big reason why the Indians haven’t managed to put up those mammoth totals on the board in recent times is the inconsistency of the Great Indian Trinity of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid. Tendulkar and Ganguly have been laid low by injuries often and Dravid hasn’t managed to run the show on his own. Despite Ganguly and Tendulkar playing that one crucial knock when the going got tough, it’s been too few and far between, and as these figures (their last 20 innings before Kanpur) show, India has lost out.

SACHIN TENDULKAR
2 hundreds and 3 fifties
The hundreds came in consecutive Tests (Sydney and Multan)
Before his last 50 (in Mumbai against Australia), he went six innings without crossing single digits
In 12 of these innings, he has failed to cross single digits
Sequence: 32, 8, 7, 55, 1, 0, 1, 37, 0, 44, 241*, 60*, 194*, 2, 8, 1, 8, 2, 5, 55

RAHUL DRAVID
2 double hundreds and 3 fifties
The best phase was between the first Test in Australia and the last Test in Pakistan when he scored both his double hundreds and two fifties
Has passed 30 every fourth innings
Failed to pass 40 in his last five innings before Kanpur
Sequence: 5, 1, 43*, 233, 72*, 49, 92, 38, 91*, 6, 33, 0, 270, 0, 60, 26, 21, 2, 31*, 27

SOURAV GANGULY
2 hundreds and 2 fifties
Went 8 innings without passing 50
Since his second hundred, has made two 50s and a 40-plus score
Has not crossed single digits on eight occasions
Sequence: 4, 0, 29, 16, 17, 2, 5, 5, 100*, 25, 144, 2, 12, 37, 73, 16, 77, 45, 5, 9
