CHANDIGARH, May 25: Punjab Olympic Association president Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa and secretary general Arvind Khanna have expressed deep sorrow and grief over the death of the great doyen of Indian wrestling, Guru Hanuman. in a joint statement released here today they said that Guru Hanuman had dedicated his whole life to the cause of Indian wrestling and for incredibly long period of 75 years produced medal winning wrestlers out of his famous akhara north of Delhi.

The long list of Guru Hanuman’s disciplines is a virtual who’s who of Indian wrestling.

Guru Hanuman was a guest of honour at the recently concluded birth of Khalsa Tercentenary international sports festival at Anandpur Sahib on April 13. President of the Haryana Wrestling Association M S Malik said “in the death of Guru Hanuman, the sportsmen, specially the wrestlers have lost the real guru.” “Guruji was an institution himself.” said Malik paying rich tributes to wrestling Dronacharya.

Mittal dead
FC Mittal, vice-president of Punjab Cricket Association, expired today at Daya Nand Medical College Hospital in Ludhiana, according to a communication received here today by PCA. Mittal, who was the treasurer of the PCA for 16 long years, was known for doing social work in education for girls and the field of sports.

He was 67 years old and leaves behind wife, two sons and one daughter. PCA secretary MP Pandove, treasurer Sudhir Mittal and Mohali Cricket Association secretary GS Walia, Mohinder Singh, secretary Chandigarh Cricket Association, affiliated to the PCA, have condoled the death of Mittal. PCA president Inderjit Singh Bindra, who has gone abroad, has also sent a condolence message to the bereaved family.

“His death will ba great loss to the PCA and to the cricket fraternity,” said Pandove.
