
CHENNAI, AUG 15: Passengers of the Chennai-bound Hyderabad Express had a miraculous escape when the alert driver applied brakes in time after noticing a sand-laden lorry stuck on the tracks at an unmanned level crossing between Sulurpet and Bolireddipalayam early Sunday.
According to Railway Police, the speed of the train slowed down considerably after the driver applied brakes but it hit the lorry. The front portion of the engine was slightly damaged in the mishap.
Several incoming trains to Chennai Central were delayed due to the mishap.In a separate incident, another disaster was averted near Samastipur railway station following timely detection of a crack in the track on Saturday night.Railway sources said here today that the crack was detected after the Mithila Express crossed the section. Rail services on the Samastipur-Muzaffarpur section was paralysed for more than five hours to rectify the crack.
Long distance express trains passing through the section had to be detained at various stations.
