Traffic drive from tomorrow

Stating that protecting and preserving the environment was a collective duty, he appealed people to keep their vehicles pollution-free. He said those not carrying required documents like registration, driving licence and insurance papers as well as Pollution Under Control PUC certificates, which should be displayed on their vehicles, would be fined during the drive. He also did not rule out a simultaneous educative drive along with non-government organisations NGOs as well as propaganda through media in the context.

He said as per the rules, polluting vehicles would be fined Rs 400 and those which did not display a PUC certificate Rs 40.

He said fancy numbers plates would be repainted, and registration numbers would be etched on vehicles, which would help check theft of vehicles. He, however, admitted that some police vehicles did not display PUC certificates though he had issued specific instructions to policemen in the context after The Indian Express published a report recently. He said several officials had PUC certificates but had not displayed them. He said later they were displayed.

District Collector Anil Mukim said he had asked his officials to set an example before the public by keeping their vehicles pollution-free and displaying PUC certificates properly.
