PANCHKULA, Oct 24: It was a colourful evening at the Hansraj Public School in Sector 6 here, as the campus was decked up for the Annual Day celebrations of the Junior School. The function took off with the prize distribution function and school principal Dr Rajni Thareja read out the annual report.

Then the audience was transported into a fairy tale world of tiny tots where hope, optimism, triumph of good over evil and innocence reigned supreme. Showcasing the collective creative talent of the students, the stage was taken by storm as the well-conceived performances unfolded, almost magically.

The opening item of the hour-long cultural fiesta was a colourful welcome dance incorporating modern and classical dance forms. This was followed by a dance drama Bilote Ki Sair, based on a mythological tale, bringing home the message that man has a lot to learn and even the humble animal kingdom can contribute its bit towards this end. The idea was to communicate the message to their other brethren, who, like them can learn to love and respect nature and environment.

After this serious note came the fun and frolicky Goan dance, recapturing the typical carnival spirit of India8217;s most joyous state. The young Goan dancers deluged the audience with fun and frolic, which is intrinsic to Goan life. Then there was a special dance dedicated to the moon and the performance was as wonderful as the wonder associated with the changing faces of the moon.

Next on stage was the candyman displaying candies, toffees and fluorescent-wrapped goodies. His indigenous candies promised to oust its phoren MNC counterparts. In much the same way, the katputli dance refreshed memories of a bygone era when puppets ruled the roost, strongly mired in the Indian tradition of rural life, speaking a language of its own. The chief guest on the occasion was S.C. Chaudhary, Special Principal Secretary to Haryana Chief Minister. While speaking on the occasion, he lauded the efforts of the school and the children for presenting a show which harmonised the values of the traditional and the modern.
