
CHANDIGARH, Oct 14: Around 300 delegates representing the building industry of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir participated in a seminar on Building on Standards’ held here in Hotel Shivalikview today.
The seminar was jointly organised by International Organisation for Standards, International Electro-technical Commission and Inter Telecommunication Union, to mark the World Standards Day.
Chandigarh Housing Board Chairman Balbir Singh inaugurated the session. He emphasised the importance of construction for socio-economic development. Complimenting the role of Bureau of Indian Standards in the building construction sector, he said standards should be implemented in view of the fact that they play a very important role from the conception of the design till the final construction of the building.
Earlier, BIS Deputy Director General V.K. Kapoor, in his welcome address highlighted the benefits of standardisation in the construction industry. Dr I. C. Syal, HOD, Civil Engineering, Punjab Engineering College, chaired the technical session.
Among others who spoke on the occasion were Punarjit Singh, Chief Engineer, Municipal Corporation, I. J. S. Bakshi, Principal, College of Architecture, Jaidev Singh, Chairman, Chandigarh Consumer Forum and R.D. Angra, Director, BIS.
