8226;I have a gallstone problem. It is a fat-cholesterol associated stone. I am 23 years old and weigh 47 kgs. I have been advised to have an operation, which I8217;m not very keen on. Please suggest some alternatives.

Dr Kapil Juneja, consultant, Moolchand Medicity, says:
There is no alternative, no medical therapy for this. Gall bladder stones must be removed as early as possible because they can lead to several complications such as jaundice and pancreatitis, which can be life threatening. It is always advisable to get them removed along with gall bladder. If not removed, in it can lead to cancer of gall bladder also. They are easily removed laproscopically and the patient can go home next day.
8226;I was detected with stones in my gall bladder. However, since the stones are very small, I have not been facing problems. I have just left them as they are. Can any precaution be taken for this and will I face any problem later?

Dr Kapil Juneja, consultant, Moolchand Medicity, says:
Gall bladder is a storage organ and having stones in it does no good. Once the stones are removed, the patient can lead a better life. While there is no precaution for this problem, a fat free diet is helpful.
