Thane Mayor in soup for EC code violation

THANE, January 17: The Thane police today registered offences of violation of the model code of conduct against city Mayor Vijaya Deshmukh, Deputy Mayor, Balchandra Patil, Thane district Shiv Sena chief Anand Dighe, leader of the House Vilas Samant and outgoing MP from Thane Prakash Paranjpe.

The leaders were charged with going ahead with the inauguration and laying of foundation stones of projects in the city of Thane. All are likely to be arrested any time now, a top police source said this evening.

Thane Deputy Commissioner of Police Zone I Archana Tyagi-Sharma said Shiv Sena corporator Harishchandra Narkar was also arrested today for violation of the model code of conduct by organising the inauguration of a health centre at a civic school in Gandhi Nagar locality on January 14.
