Telecom staff stage dharna

S.A.S. NAGAR, June 3: The Mohali unit of All India Telecom Employees Union staged a dharna in front of its office in Phase V of the township in protest against the anti-workers attitude of telecom officials.

Addressing the workers on dharna, president and general secretary of the union said that the telecom officials in Mohali, instead of improving their service conditions, were harassing them. The employees resolved to continue their struggle till SDO (Cable) was transferred. They also alleged that official vehicles were being used for personal utility.

Deputy General Manager Boota Ram said that the dharna was organised against non-payment of dues to the labour engaged by the contractor. He added that the department was not responsible for payment to the labour on contract and added that allegations regarding misuse of official vehicles would be looked into soon.
