TataSky, Sun TV settle dispute
After nearly a year of litigation in the Supreme Court and broadcast tribunal TDSAT, Direct-to-Home DTH operator TataSky and broadcaster Sun TV have settled their dispute on channel sharing and pricing.
After nearly a year of litigation in the Supreme Court and broadcast tribunal TDSAT, Direct-to-Home DTH operator TataSky and broadcaster Sun TV have settled their dispute on channel sharing and pricing.
During proceedings at Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal TDSAT, counsels appearing for both sides informed the bench on Monday that the issue has been resolved and requested disposal of the petition.
Accepting this, TDSAT Chairman Justice Arun Kumar directed the petition be disposed along with various applications filed by the two parties against each other.
As per the paper submitted by the counsels before the bench, TataSky will offer all 20 channels in its entry packages in southern states. This will also be open for their all-India subscribers.
On the pricing issue, both parties informed the tribunal that due to 8216;reasons of confidentiality8217; they were unable to provide the complete details.
As per the agreement, a 80:20 joint venture between Tata group and broadcast major Star India, TataSky will provide channels in combined packages to subscribers. It was earlier demanding Sun TV8217;s channels on pick and choose basis.
Some of the major channels which will now be available on TataSky8217;s platform are Sun TV, K TV, Sun Music, Sun News, Gemini, Teja, Gemini Music, Gemini News, Udaya TV, Udaya News and Chutti TV.
