The police on Friday night killed Chandan Sharma, one of the suspected assailants of noted surgeon N.K. Agarwal, in an encounter behind a hospital here. Senior Superintendent of Police Nayyer Hassain Khan said that on a tip off, the police chased a motorcyle which Sharma was riding with an accomplice. Khan said Sharma opened fire and the police retaliated. Sharma—a close associate of notorious gangster Bindu Singh, who allegedly masterminded Agarwal’s murder on November 12 for ransom—died on the spot, Khan said. His accomplice escaped. The police recovered a revolver, a country-made pistol and a mobile phone. —PTI
