
Heavy rains forecast
The state flood control room, in a warning issued has stated that cyclonic winds, accompanied by heavy showers is likely to hit all coastal regions of South Gujarat in the next 24 hours. Winds with speeds ranging from 45 to 55 kms an hour are forecast for Wednesday, causing high tidal waves in the Arabian Sea, the release stated. While fishermen have been warned not to venture out into the sea, those residing in the coastal areas have been directed to shift to safer places. The cyclone is likely to hit the coast by evening, causing heavy rains on the 13th and 14th, the release stated.
Dates fixed
Dates for a number of district-level school winter games competitions have been fixed from September 8 to 10, according to a release issued by the District Sports Activities Officer. These who qualify here will be eligible for the national-level championships. The games include volleyball, kabbadi, kho-kho, wrestling, judo, hockey and badminton, among others. The contest for volleyball and athletics will be from October 6 to 9. Entry forms should reach the Sports Activities8217;s office at the Old Civil court, 10 days before the scheduled events, the officer stated.
MBA results
The results of the three-year part-time evening Master of Business Administration MBA examination held in December/April by the South Gujarat University were declared on Tuesday. Those who have been declared passed are roll numbers 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, according to an official statement issued here by the university registrar.
Export award
Large, medium scale and small scale industries of the district have been invited to send applications for the Export Order8217; instituted by the State8217;s government Gujarat State Export Award Yojna. Applicants should furnish necessary details to the District Industries Centre at Bahumali. The award is given to industries that have excelled in exports. Industries set up in rural areas as well as under schemes for the socially backward are also eligible for the award, which will be finalised by a state level committee.
Discussion held
A discussion on Criminal Activity8217; was held here recently by the Lions Club. Among others, Additional Police Commissioner P C Thakur, educationist Shashikant Shah, Falgun Jani spoke on the emerging crime scenario in the city. A number of factors behind crimes and how they could be controlled were also discussed.
