Heavy rains predicted
Surat: Nizar, Bardoli, Mahuva, Mandvi, Valod, Vyara and Songadh talukas of the district received moderate showers during the past 24 hours, according to the district met office. The state flood control room has predicted heavy showers in South Gujarat, including Daman, Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli in the next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the Ukai dam showed 301.96 ft, Kakrapar weir 157.01 ft and the Amli Dam was 110.85 ft water, according to the control room.

Mobile teams
With increasing cases of gastroenteritis, the New Civil hospital has set up a mobile medical team comprising doctors and other workers. According to a statement, until Sunday, 280 patients were being treated for gastro and other diseases and 81 were discharged after treatment. Most of the affected are from the Pandesara, Ganeshnagar, Dindoli, Udhna, Sachin, Un and Limbayat areas. Civil hospital sources said that there have been more cases in other hospitals of the district as well.

Donation
The R P Chauhan Arts and Commerce college in Vyara town of the district has donated Rs 21,000 towards the Chief Minister’s Cyclone Relief Fund for the cyclone-hit victims of the state. According to a statement, college Principal Rasesh Shukla presented a cheque to Water Supply minister Narottam Patel at a function held in the college on Monday morning.

Vanmohatsav
Deputy forest conservator of the Social Forestry department of Surat Circle B D Kuber, in an invitation to environmentalists and the general public, has said that cash prizes and other awards will be given to individuals who contribute significantly during the fortnight-long vanmohatsav beginning August. The department, in association with the forest department, has chalked out elaborate plans to distribute saplings to individuals, organisations and educational institutions.

Power theft
Vadodara: The Gujarat Electricity Board detected power theft to the tune of Rs 2.52 lakh from defaulters during checks carried out between June 29 and July 5. As many as 3,567 cases of power theft were detected, which include 138 cases of power theft from agriculture, 491 of industries among others. Besides, 2,938 meters were also checked during this period.

School function
A function to mark the 96th birth anniversary of noted educationist and social worker Bhau Lilaram Chandiramani was held on July 17 at the Shri Ladharam Higher Secondary School. A cultural programme was presented by school students.

Books given
State bank of India’s IPCL branch distributed notebooks and pens to 100 students of the Koyali Boys school at a function organised on Monday. A cultural programme was also held on the occasion.
