
Excise chief to meet SGCCI members
Chief Commissioner of Central Excise and Customs D K Archarya will interact with members of the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Monday at 5 pm at the Chamber8217;s bank hall. In a statement, SGCCI president Amarnath Dora said Acharya would be receptive to suggestions and comments on the Citizens8217; Charter published by the Central Board of Excise and Customs, Department of Revenue, New Delhi, for the benefit of trade and industry.
SPB contest
In the just concluded personality contest organised by SPB College, the three judges declared Virendra Agarwal Mr Personality and Farida Shakir Miss Personality. Prathavatiben Dixit and Sunil D8217;Souza were the guests of honour at the function.
Inauguration
The Andhjan Shikshan Mandal has organised a function on September 14, during which Surat Mayor Bhikhabhai Boghra will inaugurate a centre selling items created by the visually disabled. In a statement, Mandal president Harkishan Joshi said while Boghra would be the chief guest, Municipal Commissioner G P Mohapatra would be the guest of honour.
Rain forecast
Vadodara: The meteorology department has forecast more rainfall for the district during the next 48 hours. All talukas, except Savli, received rain in the 24 hours ending at 8 am on Sunday. While the city recorded no rain during the day on Sunday, the weather office said Sankheda recorded 94 mm, Shinor 55 mm, Naswadi 48 mm, Jetpurpavi 70 mm and Karjan 36 mm. Other talukas recorded about 10 mm rain each.
Tennis lessons
The Bal Bhavan Society has started tennis coaching for young people in the 5-17 age group at the GAIL Tennis Court from September 2. Tennis coach Prakash John is conducting training sessions daily from 4 pm to 7.30 pm. Panchmarhi trek
The Adventure Academy will organise an eight-day trek in Panchmarhi during the Diwali vacation, during which participants will be taught camping skills, bird-watching, rock-climbing and river-crossing. Speakers at the two-day seminar on Trends in Industrial Catalysis8217; urged participants to research catalysis with an eye to the environment-friendly industries of the future.
