
DC gears up for heavy rains in next 48 hrs
The district collector, in a statement issued here on Monday, said that the entire region, including the Union Territories of Daman, Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli will receive heavy to very heavy rainfall in the next 48 hours. The flood control room has also instructed fishermen not to venture out into the sea. All talukas of the district, including the city, received mild to moderate rainfall in the past 24 hours. Mangrol taluka of the district received maximum rainfall with 84 mm, Uchhal 4 mm, Kamrej 3 mm, Choryasi 5 mm, Nizar 3 mm, Palsana 9 mm, Mahuva 8 mm, Mandvi 21 mm, Songadh 33 mm and Mangrol received 15 mm of rainfall, the department said.

All representatives of the newly formed SMC Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Karmachari Association were elected at a meeting held here in the city recently. While Ramesh Damakia was elected president, Gopal Sosa was elected the vice-president of the body. Bharat Solanki was elected general secretary, Premji Solanki and Pravin Rathod as joint secretaries and Pradeep Kantharia as treasurer, a release said.
One arrested
District civil supplies officials, in a raid conducted in Pandesara area of the city, arrested Jagdish Mulchand Jain of Nakoda Trading company for blackmarketing of groundnut oil and initiated legal proceedings against him. The raid was carried out by Civil Supplies officer K D Chandnani along with other officials. He was charged under various sections of prevention of blackmarketing act, a statement said.

VADODARA: Municipal School Board chairman Kishan Sheth, vice-chairman Kasturbhai Patel and other BJP school Board members have condoled the death of party MP from Bharuch Chandubhai Deshmukh. In a statement, they said in Deshmukh8217;s death the party had lost a real worker and it would be difficult to fill the void resulting due to his demise.
VMC notices
The Vadodara Municipal Corporation VMC on Monday issued notices to 25 buildings and commercial complexes in Nizampura, whose constructions were falling in the road margin. The defaulters have been given a week8217;s time under section 260 1 of the Bombay Provincial Municipal Corporation BPMC Act for voluntary demolition. Among those served notices on Monday are S R Petrol Pump, Gelani Petrol Pump and Jay Complex. The VMC also issued notices to two high-rise buildings in Wadi.
