Holiday today
The district collector in a release issued here on Thursday has declared Friday a holiday on account of the Rathyatra. However, employees of the district administration will have to work on July 11, against the holiday declared on Friday. All offices of the government would hence remain open on the second Saturday of July.

Boarding school
The Social Welfare department of the state government has set up a boarding school exclusively for students of socially backward classes. The school, near the Swaminarayan Mandir at Adajan Road area of the city, has all facilities including lodging, boarding among others. R D Chaudhary, principal of the school, in a statement issued on Thursday, said the school was the second of its kind in the district, after the one in Vyara.

Rainfall recorded
Choryasi, Kamrej and Mandvi talukas of the district received 22 mm, 3 mm and 2 mm of rainfall respectively in the past 24 hours, according to a release issued by the MET department here. There was, however, no rainfall in the city and the sky remained clear on Thursday.

Appeal for aid
A joint statement issued by associations of medical practitioners of the city and district on Thursday appealed to the people to donate generously for the cyclone-affected people of Kutch and Saurashtra. The city units of the Indian Medical Association, the General Medical Practitioners Association, the Physicians Association and others, have said the donations can be send to the IMA office or the GMPA before June 30.

Lecture series
A lecture series, organised jointly by the Gujarati Sahitya Parishad and the Narmad Sahitya Sabha will be held here on July 4 and 5. Aimed at providing a platform for budding writers and poets, it will be held at the Taramoti Hall of the P T Sarvajanik College of Science, Athwa Lines. A number of distinguished speakers, writers and academicians will speak on the occasion.

Offices closed
Vadodara: The offices of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation VMC and the Gujarat Electricity Board GEB will remain closed on Friday, on the occasion of rathyatra. The holiday has been declared under the provisions of the Negotiable Instruments Act. All the departments of the VMC, including Gas and Schools, will remain closed. However, those connected with essential services will remain open.
