Appeal for post in cyclone-hit areas
The Bharatiya Postal Employees Union Class III has urged Chief Post Master general Asha Kulkarni to take steps to restore postal services in cyclone-affected areas of Kutch and Saurashtra. In a letter to the chief post master general, union circle Secretary I A Shikh said post offices in the area had been badly affected. Navlakhi and Kandla post offices have been almost destroyed, he said. Meanwhile, members of the postal union have decided to donate their one-day8217;s salary towards the Chief Minister8217;s Relief Fund

.Vocal recital
Swarsangam in collaboration with the Surat Municipal Corporation has organised a vocal recital on June 23 by Pandit Ajay Pohanker. The recital is being organised as a grand finale of the birth centenary celebrations of Pandi Omkarnath Thakor, which began on June 24, 1997. The recital, at Gandhi Smruti Bhavan, will begin at 9.30 p.m.

Women8217;s hostel
The State government-run Working Hostel for working tribal women, in Adajan, has started functioning. Those interested should contact the district welfare officer in person at his office in Bahumali, Nanpura.

Notices served
The Food Inspection Branch of the Surat Municipal Corporation on Thursday slapped notices to 23 shop owners and collected four water samples during surprise checks conducted in several markets in the city. Bombay restaurant in Chowk baazar, Kamal Restaurant and Punjabi Restaurant in Pandesara area were inspected by a team of the Food Inspection Branch. Watermelon worth 1100 kg and 366 kg beef and mutton was destroyed.

Swearing-in
The swearing-in ceremony of the office-bearers of the Rander-Adajan units of the Lions and Lioness Club was held here in the city on Thursday. While Dinesh Modi was appointed president of the Lions club, Lioness Jayana Jariwala was appointed as the president of the women8217;s unit, according to a statement issued by the club.

NTPC donation
National thermal Power Corporation NTPC has contributed an amount of Rs 75 lakh Rs 50 lakh for Gujarat and Rs 25 lakh for Rajasthan for the relief measures being undertaken in cyclone-hit areas of Kutch and Saurashtra.
