The bridge over the Kharicut canal in the Machhunagar area of Vatva will be closed from today (January 1) for six months after it was declared “structurally unsafe” and will be demolished.

A notification was issued by the Ahmedabad Police Commissioner G S Malik for traffic diversion in the Vatva GIDC area on Tuesday. The existing 23-metre long bridge will be demolished and a new bridge is set to be built by the Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC).

As per the police orders, the 200 metre long stretch from Ramol crossroads and Trikampura Patiya will be completely closed for all types of vehicles during these six months when the construction of the new bridge is underway.

The traffic from Vatva GIDC area will be diverted via Ramol Police Chowki, Hathijan Lal Gebi Circle towards Trikampura through alternate roads.

While traffic entering Vatva GIDC from outside will be diverted from Trikampura crossroads towards GIDC using alternate internal roads. As per the notification, the bridge will be closed till June 30, 2026
