Two try to end lives over going to church
The communal tension plaguing South Gujarat, seems to have spread within families as a couple tried to end their lives over going to Church at Vadpada village of Songadh taluka on Monday.

According to a complaint registered with the Songadh Police Station on Tuesday, Turjibhai Limjibhai Gamit asked his wife Ushaben why she was not accompanying him to Church. His wife of one year reportedly said it was for her to decide whether to go Church or temple. The two reportedly fought over the issue. In a fit of rage Turji, 22, consumed phenyl. Ushaben, who saw him doing that, also followed suit. Both were rushed to a Vyara Hospital in unconscious condition. Their condition was reported stable.

No form fee
The Gujarat Secondary Education Board has decided to waive off the form fee of Rs 20 for external HSC students appearing in the October examinations. According to GSEB secretary N K Patel, arrangement for making the forms available free of cost at DEOs office was being made. He has requested students or parents not to send money order or draft to Gandhinagar office of the board.

Chess for blind
The Andhjan Shikshan Mandal and the Rashtriya Andhjan Mandal Surat district branch have organised a national-level chess tournament for the blind. District Collector Sangeeta Singh will inaugurate the tournament at 10 am on Friday.

School function
The Lancers Army School celebrated its annual function recently. Fashion show, beach dance, Bhangra, Bengali dance and Rajasthani dance were among the events held during three days. A comedy play byclass seven students, aerobics, fashion show, Garhwali dance, Tamil Dance, Diya dance from Kerala, western dance and Bharatnatyam were among the items presented by seniors.
