School directive
The Surat district officer for primary education has asked educational institutions planning to start primary schools to apply before February 20 after securing forms from his office. The new policy formulated by the education department has come into force from January 30. Unrecognised balmandirs in panchayat areas should also seek recognition at the earliest, he added.

Conference
A conference of judges from Surat district and probationer officers will be held at the district court premises on February 13. The conference will discuss ways for rigorous implementation of various provisions of Probation of Offenders Act, 1958. District Sessions Judge A A Kureshi will preside over the conference, while Director of Social Defence Department Nalinbhai Thakkar will be the guest of honour.

Rally staged
Students of schools located in the city8217;s Varachha area staged a rally on Thursday for the cause of eye donation. The rally is part of a week-long programme, launched by the Lok Drishthi Charitable Trust and the state government.
