
Hungary8217;s troupe to perform
The Surat Municipal Corporation and Ahmedabad-based Darpan Academy of Performing Arts will host a performance by Hungary8217;s troupe at Indoor Stadium on Wednesday as part of Mahotsava 8217;99 International Folk Dance festival. The programme will begin at 9 p.m.
Awarded Ph.D
Upendrabhai T Desai, principal of the Akhand Anand Arts amp; Commerce College, Ved Road, has been awarded Ph.d degree by the South Gujarat University. Desai did his research Comparative Study of Financial Management in Fertiliser Units in Gujarat with Special Reference to GSFG amp; GNFC8217; under the guidance of Dr S S Shrivastav, former head of the Department of Business amp; Industrial Management, SGU.
Camp held
Jawahar Mirazkar, a system analyst from Bangalore, conducted a counselling camp for students of Interact Club of Nandvidhyaniketan School, Essar Gujarat, Hazira on January 15 and 16. While he was invited by the Rotary Club of Surat, a written aptitude test was held during the camp. A similar camp will be organised for the students of Shardayatan School, Piplod on January 19.
Music festival
A three-day Baiju Shastriya Sangeet Samaroh will be held in the city from January 22. The programme has been organised jointly by the Gujarat Rajya Sangeet Natak Academy Gandhinagar and Naad8217; Surat in memory of late musician Baiju Bawra. The programme, to be presided over by professor R C Mehta, will be inaugurated at Gandhi Smruti Bhavan at 8.30 pm by Pandit Dinanath Upadhyay. Vocalists Viraj Parikh, Ratanlal Sharma, violinist Ramakant Sant will perform on January 22, while D K Dattar will present violin recital and Trupti Mukherjee and Harikant Sevak vocal recitals on January 23.
