Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 5: Three new records in relay were among nine new marks set on the penultimate day of the athletics events in the 45th National School Games and Athletics Championship on Saturday. Hosts and defending champions Kerala took their tally to 136 and opened a gulf between themselves and the other states. Punjab (94) were second and Haryana (74 points) third.The three new relay records were created by hosts Kerala whose boys (U-17) improved upon their own record with 43.63s in 4x100m relay.

Kerala girls eclipsed the old records in the 4x100m (U-17 & U-14) by clocking 49.23s and 50.32s respectively. Naginder Kaur of Punjab set a new mark in the girls U-19 1500m (4:42.69), clipping seven-tenths of a second of Asian Games silver medallist Sunitha Rani’s mark. Maharashtra Swati Gurnule was second in 4:43.16 seconds.
