The Indian Railways has started preliminary studies on speeding up the realisation of a Trans-Asia railway line.
Railway Board chairman J.P. Batra today said a team of senior officials, including a member (Planning) and a member (Mechanical), had already visited Myanmar and were carrying out feasibility studies for advancing the existing railway network eastwards from Jiribam on the Assam-Manipur border to Moreh at the Indo-Myanmar border.
“Though a basic agreement on the issue of the rail link will take place between the governments of the two countries, the major portion of the workload will be on the Indian side,’’ Batra said.
