DECEMBER 3: Over 3,000 Mumbai University students are planning to launch a demonstration at Fort campus to protest the newly implemented Internal Assessment8217; system.

Talking to Express Newsline, the President of Vidyarthi Pragati Sanghatana VPS, Jennifer Coutinho, said: 8220;The Vice-Chancellor, Dr Snehalata Deshmukh is not in favour of the prevailing ATKT allowed to keep terms as it tends to make students lazy. However, Internal Assessment8217; is not a good solution as thousands of students will not be able to appear for the final examinations, if they are not able to clear the first term exams.8221; According to the new Internal Assessment system, 30 per cent of the syllabus will be covered in the first term exams, while 70 per cent will be reserved for the final exams.

In case a candidate is unable to score the requisite 20 per cent marks per subject in the terminal exams, the student will not be allowed to appear for the final exams in that subject.

What really has got the students worried is that there is no provision for those who may fall sick at the time of terminal examinations. A VPS activist Chetan Dhuri said that they are also planning to form an ATKT Bachao Kriti Samiti which will function as a representative committee for students from all colleges.
