ROHTAK, Nov 4: Union Home Minister L.K. Advani expressed serious concern over the deteriorating education system in the country and urged the educationists to ponder over the issue as to why Indians living abroad excel in the fields of computers, space science, medical sciences, technology and economics and fail to do so in their own country. This, he said, despite the fact that they Indians living abroad too were educated in India.

The Union Home Minister was delivering a convocation address at Maharshi Dayanand University here today.

He exhorted those involved involved in the field to create an environment in the educational institutions where students with high academic qualifications did not tend to leave the country but serve it from within. He said brain drain should be stopped.

The Minister said the polluted political atmosphere of the country was partly responsible for the factor.

He said that in a country where 40 per cent of its population remained without the benefits of modern education, the society had to struggle hard to get basic necessities of life.

The Home Minister said that he was raising these issues not to project a gloomy picture of education system but to point out weaknesses which could be mended as 8220;we are fully prepared to set these in order8221;. He said that there have been occasions when lack of initiatives did not 8220;let us achieve the goal8221;.

Paying rich tributes to Swami Dayanand, he said that this university had been named after a great social reformer who not only gave a new direction and strength to new Indian resurgence, but he had also made significant contribution in the field of education.

He said that Swami Dayanand strongly advocated Sanskrit, propagated his basic teachings in Hindu by writing 8220;Satyarth Prakash8221;. He said that Swami Dayanand not only stressed on teaching vedic culture but also on teaching English as he felt that if the new generation did not keep pace with the changing times it would lag behind.

Advani cautioned that 8220;we would not be able to realise the dreams of our great saints, revolutionaries and national leaders, who sacrificed their lives to see India at a place of pride till we prepare our new generation to meet challenges of modern world boldly8221;.

He deplored the fact that some powerful nations were trying to dominate amd control other nations through science and technology. Advani termed it as blatant misuse of modern education and science and technology.
