
27 killed in bus accident
JALANDHAR: Twenty-seven people were killed and more than 50 injured when the bus they were travelling in fell into a gorge near village Mangowal in this district on Monday.
Police said the Ludhiana-bound Pepsu Road Transport Corporation bus, returning from Himachal Pradesh, fell head on into the deep khud as its driver lost control while negotiating a sharp turn.
British-era plane debris recovered
CHHINDWARA: The debris of an Army Dakota plane that crashed in 1938 have been found recently near village Ambadi under Sausar tehsil in Chhindwara district of Madhya Pradesh.The Dakota plane belonged to the Army at that time and was used for carrying mail to Kamptee near Nagpur in Maharashtra when it crashed. The debris got noticed after they were washed ashore in the recent floods. Officials that there were reports of people in surrounding areas having sold off scrap iron by cutting it from the plane.
Criminal shot dead in Chennai
CHENNAI: A criminal wasshot dead by the police early Monday morning near a railway level crossing at suburban Villivakkam, when he allegedly attacked a Police Inspector. He had hurled a petrol bomb at the police party and then tried to attack Inspector Nandakumar with a knife. The 34-year-old Balakrishnan alias Military Kumar was involved in 26 cases of chain snatching and robbery in neighbouring districts, besides a dozen crimes in the city.
Bandh paralyses life in Tripura
AGARTALA: Normal life was disrupted in two sub-divisions of North Tripura and Dhalai districts on Monday following bandhs called by major political parties and Congress respectively, in protest against the killing of two persons. In Dharamnagar sub-division of North Tripura the bandh was called by ruling CPI-M, Opposition Congress and Trinamool Congress in protest against Sunday8217;s killing of one person and kidnapping of eight others by NLFT ultras.
Farmers8217; markets to be set up
CHENNAI: Farmers markets, to enable agriculturists to selltheir products directly to consumers, eliminating middlemen, will be set up in 100 places in Tamil Nadu. An official press release said here today the government would provide all infrastructure to these markets, which would come in municipal and town panchayat areas.
