Since the past week sleeplessness, tiredness, and near chronic fatigue syndrome have been the unfortunate downside to the dizzying round of near frenetic socialising that the City has been witness to.To draw parallels between this Giga event and the others that preceeded it these past few days would be unfair,as when you marry Amar's political savvy, with the might of the Ambani's you have a heady enough concoction, but add to that the Bachchan charisma and you have the crowd puller of the A list and a surefire successful party. The black invitation outlined the stellar constellation, but the symbol of a lone silver star made you flip the page and the invite held out as much promise as the evening eventually delivered,in that stargazing and celebration was there aplenty.I had made plans to go to the event with close friends of mine from the industry, the handsome heartthrob Jackie Shroff and Oh so divine Shilpa Shetty, chaperoned in true South Indian style by her lovely mother Sunanda. As they had attended a function in Poona and had airdashed in true filmy style to attend Anil's do there was a zing of expectation in the air even before we got to the party.Arjun Khanna had designed,in his unsurpassable style an exquisite sari ensemble for me which coupled with an antique basra pearl turban made me feel I had done justice to the dress code which said Starry. We fetched another American girlfriend of mine,Isley who sportingly sat on Arjun's lap, making our heartthrob hero who was gamely chauffeuring us a tad green at missing out on the action of having this petite beauty on his lap.Games apart I did feel quite filmy as we arrived as there was the popping of flashbulbs, and the two gracious hosts and the Megastar were right there to welcome each and every guest personally. We walked in to say hello to Sridevi, who looks exquisite, and to husband Boney. From then on it was a swirl of fun, laughter, and bonhomie as we greeted friend's like Rajan Nanda, his lovely wife Ritu, the elegant Anil Nanda, all part of the Bachchan clan or vice versa since Nikhil Nanda tied the knot with Shweta Bachchan a couple of years back. The Chief minister and other political heavyweights, breezedin, but it was definitely a night of the stars, not just from the film word and they were all there, but stars from every walk of life.Tina Ambani, the star bahu of the Ambani clan led in the hostess with the mostess department, she looked ultra glam in a white sequined sari with a ruby and diamond parure that winked at you like the stars almost as though they had abandoned their stellar watch for the night to do the hostess proud.I bumped into Ananya Goenka whispering conspiritorially with Supriya Sule nee Pawar.I had the uncommon pleasure of introducing them to Nikhil Nanda as normally in the rarified stratosphere of the rich, bold, famousand beautiful every one know's everyone, but they had not so I felt I'd done my good deed for the day.The Elder Statesman of Indian cinema the Yahoo man himself, Shammi kapoor was there with his lovely wife and gorgeous daughter Kanchan, who like me had taken the dress code seriously and worn an exquisite Jadau matha patti, coupled with a red and gold odini. Simi Garewal blossoming in her perrenial favourite white, her elegant sister Amrita, the witty and with it Vir Sanghvi, the irrepresible Javed Jaffrey, the King of Adalats Rajat Sharma, the finest editor in the land,Shekhar Gupta were some of the other friends I caught up with during the course of the night.Rani Mukherjee, looked saucy and fresh,Urmila Matondkr looked ravishing in white,Sonali sporting a new hairstyle looked sexy. All the big wigs of the industry were there, David Dhawan the most prolific and successful of the New Age directors I am personally fond of,was in a great mood ,Subhash Ghai, another of the all time greats was seen absorbing it all,Sunita Kapoor told me half in jest that with Anil away so much he's virtually an NRI,having known Sunitasince the time she and Anil were dating,I know her to be a loving and giving mother and wife, lucky Anil. The South Indian heartthrob Chiranjeevi and Nagarjuna looked dishy but elusive so I went up and had a little chat with them, charming gentlemen both. In the course of the evening I walked past the tables laden with the finest foods,I chatted with Adi Godrej,Devika Bhojwani who wittily comented that my look was 'a feather in my cap'.Raj Thackery, the goodlooking nephew of Balasaheb, was at his wittiest best and it was with a real sense ofsadness that we finally called it a night.Saying our quick farewells only to have our gracious host Anil see us to the door. Then in a scene straight out of a film, the dashing Salman Khan asked the beautiful Shilpa to come for a spin in his new wheels and off they went, they beat us back to my home and both Jackie and I are now in the market for new wheels. An evening that made one starry eyed and proud not just for the Superstar of the Millenium, but for all the other's who helped make it an unbelievable evening and to Anil and Tina most go the toast of 'the most gracious generous host's the city has seen'.It was superlative.
