SURAT, Nov 11: A state Reserve Police jawan shot himself dead with his service rifle in the parking lot of the Varachha police station on Tuesday afternoon after a brawl with another SRP jawan, a case registered said. Both, the police stated, were in an inebriated state when the incident occurred.

The jawan, Karansingh Surajsingh Jat of the SRP Group 9, E-Company, Vadodara, was a Vadodara resident.

The other jawan, Ganpat Ramu Amle, has been arrested by the police and booked under sections of the Prohibition Act and the IPC. PSI H P Pandya is investigating further. Amle was in an inebriated state when the police arrested him.

According to the police, the two were friends and went out together on Tuesday. They ate together and then consumed liquor. Thereafter, they got into an argument, during which Amle slapped Karansingh on the face. They then returned to the camp at the Varachha police station, where Karansingh shot himself through the chest.

He was immediately rushed to the New Civil Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on admission. The body has since been handed over to relatives. Police also said that they received a note on a piece of paper that Karansingh wrote, in which he stated he was committing suicide as Amle had threatened him.
