MUMBAI, MARCH 15: Hosts Sporting Clubs’ Committee (Thane) beat Sahil CC (Mira Road) by 57 runs in the final of the 43rd Shamrao Thosar Shield Suburban cricket tournament (45 overs) at the Central maidan, Thane, yesterday.

Captain Sulakshan Kulkarni, and all-rounder Chandrahas Bhatkar, were jointly adjudged Men of the Match.

Sporting Clubs’ Committee 235-7 (Ashutosh Narkar 44, Omkar Salvi 33, Sulakshan Kulkarni 42) bt Sahil CC 178 in 37.4 overs (Praful Dhole 64, Sujit Gadkari 47, Milind Korgaonkar 46; Chandrahas Bhatkar 4-14) by 57 runs.

Pardeshi, Nirmala top:
Pune-based unseeded Yogesh Pardeshi and top-seeded State champion and former four-time National champion Mumbai-based Parimi Nirmala (LIC) lifted the Open and women’s singles titles in the Pune Mahapaur Chakra 2nd Maharashtra State Ranking prize-money carrom tournament at the Nehru Stadium, recently.

Yogesh Pardeshi (Pun) bt Sayyad Mohsin Qasim (Jal) 25-0,25-17.

Vasant Parab and Mohini Lalwani emerged individual champions in the men’s 60-65 and women’s 66 years, respectively, at the Rotary Club of Bombay Hills South Senior Citizens athletic meet held at the Brabourne Stadium during the weekend.

Marinagar Sports Club defeated Willingdon Catholic Gymkhana 3-0 in the Punjab National Bank-sponsored BHA First Division hockey league at the Khalsa College ground, Matunga, today. Cajetan P, Keith Fernandes and M Clyde were the goal-getters. In the Second Division tie, MLWB (Goregoan) drew 1-1 with Larsen & Toubro. Sushant Jadhav gave L&T the lead and N Krishnan equalised.

John Rato (12) scraped past Colin Duarte (12) 68-57 in the first-round of the AR Dias Memorial billiards tournament at Catholic Gymkhana.
