
8216;Let8217;s have it again8217;, say tricity8217;s foodies after CITCO8217;s South Indian food festival
The timing couldn8217;t have been better. If there was the Southern extravaganza 8216;Poompuhar8217; in one part of the city another part saw a fest that only added to the celebrations. Tricity8217;s South Indian Food lovers got a special treat at Spicy South Food Festival organized by the Chandigarh Industrial and Tourism Development Corporation CITCO from October 18 to 20. Tourists coming to the region also got their share of another part of India at Hotel Mountview. For the first time CITCO introduced non-vegetarian South Indian delicacies. CITCO tabled special non-vegetarian menu with two chicken dishes and one each with mutton and fish. This was in addition to classic vegetarian dishes like dosas, idli etc. The festival was a big hit among the tricity foodies who binged on the non-veg dishes giving the fresh taste a thumbs-up.
The three-course menu started with soup, Rasam with papad or butter milk for non-vegetarian as well as vegetarian food. In the non-vegetarian segment, the main course had chicken chattinad and koly kuzhambu. Apart from the usual egg dosa people there was also mutton vindaloo and meen kuzhambu to choose from. For the vegetarians there were porrial, avail seasonal vegetarian with coconut, alookora, kanji idli and plain idli with samber. The thaijir sadan rice together with options like curd, lemon or coconut had people asking for more. For the sweet addicts there was pal payasam, sweet pongal and ice -cream and veeda plain and sweet paan. The chefs of Tamil Nadu were also associated with the food festival to prepare authentic South Indian food with their own spices and ingredients. With the package rate of Rs 399 per person the festival had everybody asking for more. But you wouldn8217;t have to wait another year now because the hotel has decided to add a few non-veg Southern dishes to its regular menu. Feast on!
