With large crowds expected to usher in the New Year, the Delhi Traffic Police Tuesday issued an advisory announcing traffic restrictions, parking arrangements and alternate routes in and around Connaught Place and nearby areas on December 31.

According to the advisory, special traffic arrangements will come into force from 7 pm onwards on December 31 and will remain effective until the conclusion of New Year celebrations. The restrictions will apply to all private and public transport vehicles unless specifically permitted.

No vehicles will be allowed to proceed towards Connaught Place beyond designated regulation points, including Mandi House, Bengali Market, Patel Chowk, Gole Market, GPO, Windsor Place, the Ranjit Singh Flyover, Minto Road-DDU Marg crossing, Chelmsford Road near New Delhi railway station, R K Ashram Marg-Chitragupta Marg crossing, and key intersections on Kasturba Gandhi Road and Jai Singh Road.

Vehicular traffic will not be permitted in the Inner, Middle or Outer Circle of Connaught Place, except for vehicles carrying valid entry passes.

The Traffic Police have earmarked parking locations near Gole Dak Khana, including Kali Bari Marg, Pandit Pant Marg and Bhai Veer Singh Marg, besides other stretches such as Rakab Ganj Road, Copernicus Marg, Babar Road, Tansen Marg, Windsor Place, Jantar Mantar Road and Raisina Road.

Parking will be available on a first-come-first-serve basis, and illegally parked vehicles will be towed, police said.

Access to New Delhi Railway Station from the Connaught Place side via Chelmsford Road will be prohibited, while alternative routes from the south and via Ajmeri Gate have been suggested.

Traffic restrictions may also be imposed around India Gate if pedestrian movement increases.

Commuters have been advised to use public transport, avoid affected roads, and plan journeys in advance to prevent inconvenience.
