Nurses’ day
On the occasion of Florence Nightingale Day, the Rotary Club of Pune East presented vocational awards to nurses of Sassoon Hospital. The awards were given at the hands of Rotary District Governor K. Vittal Rao. A fashion show of different uniforms of nurses was also presented by the students of Nursing College.

Spiritual evening
The Chinmaya Mission has arranged Geet Gyan Yagna (discourses in Hindi) by Swami Tejomayanandaji between May 20 and 25 daily. The discourses will be held from 7.00 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. at Ganesh Kreeda Kendra, Saras Baug. The mission has also organised morning discourses at the same venue between 6.30 a.m. and 7.30 a.m. This special morning feature of this Yagna, will commence from May 21 and conclude on May 25. The topic for the evening sessions will be `Shrimad Bhagwad Geeta – Chapter V’, whereas the morning sessions will feature the `Jnana Sara’ discourses in English. Swami Tejomayanandaji is the spiritual head of Chinmaya Mission, Worldwide.

With a vision
Dyan Deep Jankalyan Foundation and Rotary club of Parvati and hill side organised a free eye check up and distributed free spectacles on May 16. Shrikant Pujari, corporator, Dr. Balasaheb Dahiphale, Suhas Lodha, Vijay Shivsaran and Vijaya Avhad organised the camp.

For a good cause
Samparc, a non government organisation was established in 1990 by Amita Banerjee and Lata Pandey. The main motive behind SAMPARC was to develop the lives of destitute children and children of sex workers and to make them acceptable by society. SAMPARC has undertaken various projects in rural areas. Their new project at Wandra village, is set up with a view to provide education the children by keeping them in a hostel in the village. In order to raise resources for its projects Samparc has organised a concert of the "Little Wonders", an all children orchestra promoted by director Kalyanji of Kalyanji Anandji fame. The orchestra will be held at Ganesh kala Krida Manch, on May 19 at 6.30 p.m.

Milap Mela
The Punjabi Cultural Association organised Milap (Marriage) Mela at the Punjabi Cultural Hall, Atur Sangtani park on May 10. Around 400 youngsters were accompanied by their parents for the mela. Some from Pune and the others were from Nashik, Ahmnednagar, Daund, Baramati and Aurangabad. Seven marriage proposals were settled on the occasion. The association appealed to those present to avoid taking dowry. PMC additional commissioner, Deepak Kapoor was the guest of honour. The others present on the occasion were K.L Nagpal, K.L Jolly, Anand Kocchar, B.K Chopra, G.K Johar, Geeta Arora, Khanchand Bhatija and V.K. Dhange.
