Haryana Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi suffered a cardiac arrest Thursday night, and was taken to a private hospital in Mohali, where he underwent surgery.
Sources said Rastogi suddenly fell ill and complained of severe chest pain, following which he was taken to Fortis Hospital, Mohali.
Rastogi, a 1990-batch IAS officer, underwent the surgery under the supervision of cardiac surgeon Dr P S Mahant. It has been learnt that Rastogi is currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). He is likely to undergo bed rest for at least a couple of months.
He was scheduled to retire on June 30, 2025, but the Centre granted him a one-year extension last year on the recommendation of the state government.
Rastogi has served in several important positions in the Haryana government. Before taking over as the Chief Secretary, Rastogi served as financial commissioner (Revenue) and additional chief secretary (Finance).
In an official statement by Fortis Hospital said, “Shri Anurag Rastogi, IAS, Chief Secretary, Haryana, was admitted for a bypass heart surgery at Fortis Hospital Mohali on 9th January, 2026. Following an uneventful surgery, Shri Anurag Rastogi is stable and recovering in the CTVS Intensive Care Unit.”
