Remembering Paramahans
The birth anniversary of Ramkrishna Paramahans will be celebrated at the Sri Sarada Math on February 18 with a special puja and havan. The programme in the morning will include mangalarti, Vedic prayers and meditation. In the evening bhajans will be sung by Hemlata Navidkar along with readings from Paramahans Ramkrishna8217;s life. The programmes are scheduled to begin at 5.00 am.

Bodh Utsav
After the successful culmination of the second Arya Mahasammelan in January this year, the Arya Samaj celebrated Shivaratri and Swami Dayanand Bodh Utsav on February 14 at its premises. Bodh, which means acquiring wisdom or awareness, is a commemoration of the day that Swami Dayanand became conscious8217;. The chief guest at the function was A K Verma, divisional railway manager, while J M Mehra, chief commissioner of Income Tax, presided over the function. Bhajans were also sung on the occasion and the function was followed by priti bhojan.

Getting sporty
Around 705 students from 21 ashram schools of Pune, Sholapur, Kolhapur, Satara districts, participated in sport events sponsored by the Maharashtra Government Tribal Development department. These events were held at Government Post-basic Ashram School, Terungan taluka, Ambegaon, from February 5 to 7. Awards were given to the winners, that included boys of Tokawade School Khed, Khireshwar Junnar and Terungan Ambegaon who won the first prize in kabbadi, kho-kho, volleyball respectively. Girls from Sonawale Khireshwar Junnar, Wadeshwar Maval also put in winning performances in the same. The overall champion was Tokawade Ashram School.

Time for thanksgiving
February 18 is being observed as Thanksgiving Day by the Sadhu Vaswani Mission centres in India and abroad. This was the day that Dada J P Vaswani underwent open heart surgery and was granted a new lease of life. The Sadhu Vaswani Mission is having a week-long programme in connection with the Thanksgiving Day. A Dada mela will also be held for handicapped children on February 17 between 4.00 pm and 6.00 pm. Over 400 children from the school for the blind, Mahila Sevagram, Society for the Welfare of the Physically Handicapped and Research Centre have been invited. It has been proposed to carry out 20 free by-pass surgeries at Mumbai and 10 free surgeries in Delhi. A special prayer programme has also been planned for the week.

Backache camp
As a part of its silver jubilee celebrations, the Hardikar Hospital celebrations organised a backache camp on February 5. On February 6 an osteoporosis checkup with bone densitometry with the help of the newly acquired bone densitometer machine. The hospital will introduce this on a regular basis for their OPD.

Matrimonial programme
The fourth Matrimonial Assistance Programme for the deaf, to be held on February 14, has been postponed to February 21 on account of Mahashivatri. The programme will be held at Mumbadevi Municipal School, Chauak Hall, ground floor, Kansara Chawl, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk, Kalbadevi Road, Mumbai 400 002. Any interested deaf person 8211; regardless of race, religion and sex 8211; can apply for matrimonial registration to the Maharashtra Deaf Pride Office, 3rd floor, R.No. 82. The application form for registration can be had from the society office between 5.00 pm and 7.00 pm.

Blessings from His Holiness
The Peetarohana anniversary of His Holiness of Krishnanada Teertha Swami Jagatguru Shankaracharya Sansthanam Shakatapuram Sri Vidya Peetam was recently celebrated at Sharda, LIC Colony, Kothrud. Many disciples of His Holiness from all over the country participated in the function and received his blessings. His Holiness commended the services of several individuals who are spreading Sanatana Dharma all over the country.

Healing therapy
The Senior Citizen8217;s Association of Mira Society recently arranged a camp on pranic healing. The camp, conducted by Raju Watwe, was well-attended by around 40 residents and their guests. The demonstration covered those suffering from spondylitis, pain in the joints, palpitation and depression. According to some of the residents, the effects of the method was immediately felt by those who had been chosen for the demonstration. Raju Watwe will be conducting a similar camp on February 20 at Laxmi road. For further details one can contact Watwe on 474862.

Medal tally
The recently-established Jayanti Devi gold medals for the students of St Mira8217;s College for Girls were given away on February 9. Neoline Anand bagged the gold medal for standing first in std XII Arts exam. The other student to be chosen for the gold medal was Sheetal Joshi from FYBA. The chief guest, N K Jain, joint secretary with the government of Maharashtra, gave away the medals. The medal has been established by R K Joshi in the sacred memory of his mother Jaswanti Devi.
