In this television-ruled age, one cannot help being up-to-date in the latest films and music. This rue applies especially to children. But Kanika Gambhir, aged seven, has no interest in the new-age music. She instead, believe it or not, prefers old Hindi film songs 8211; her favourites being Piya Tose naina Lage Re, Choti Si Umar and Hoto Pe Aisi Baat.
From the age of five, Kanika was encouraged into dancing by her parents and then by her Kathak dance teacher Mira Pundol. Slowly, this developed into her favourite hobby and now she cannot do without practising her dances, even if it is for five minutes, daily.
Her first claim to fame came after winning the first prize at a dance competition, and since then there8217;s been no looking back for this confident child. Almost all the contests that she has participated in, she has bagged the first prize. Till date, Kanika has won ten trophies and her performances included Ubharte Taare during the Pune Festival, Weekender show and contests organised by Young Express Club, amongst many others. She was also featured in the hundredth episode of Boogie Woogie where she danced on Dhol Bajne Laga.
A student of Std II, St. Joseph8217;s Pashan, Kanika was nominated as one of the best students in her last class, scoring 95 per cent. She loves all her teachers, and even wants to become one when she grows up.
Here8217;s wishing her luck in both academics and her passion.
