PATIALA, Aug 14: The Patiala Police claimed to have busted a gang of two-wheeler, especially scooter lifters, by arresting six members of the gang here. The police also claimed to have recovered five scooters and a motor cycle from the possession of the gang members. One member of the gang is, however, absconding.

According to Superintendent of Police (Detective) Kewal Kumar, after getting information regarding this gang the police constituted a special party to catch the members of the gang, who laid the trap and finally nabbed these persons from near the outer octroi post situated on the Patiala-Rajpura road.

The arrested persons have been identified as Sukhwinder Singh alias Sukha, Amar Singh, Surjit Singh, Jaswant Singh, Karam Singh and Shamsher Singh, whereas Mona Gautam is absconding and a police party has been despatched to nab him.Kumar claimed that during the preliminary interrogation the members of the gang confessed that their main areas of operation were hospitals, banks and district courts. After lifting a vehicle the gang members would forge registration documents with affidavits to resell the vehicle in the scooter bazar near the Gurdwara Dukhniwaran Sahib and other places.

The police is hopeful to recover more vehicles after the completion of the interrogation.
