MUMBAI, MAY 3: Dhruv Sitwala and Vivek Jaisingh scored noteworthy wins in the second round of the Selvel sponsored Open Handicap Snooker Tournament at the Matharpacady Club today.

Sitwala took the first frame with a 93-84 scoreline thanks to a break of 25 but tables seemed to be turning in the second as rival P Mhatre took a 25 point lead. But Sitwala rallied with a break of 27 to put the match beyond his opponent. Jaisingh had a more easier round with a 113-82, 125-96 victory.

Shape, copmrising Hema Deora, Pramila Shivdasani, JM Shah and Arun Bapat outplayed Sriram-G, 56.5-0 IMPs in the final of the mixed team event of the Ladies National Bridge Championships, which concluded at the Andheri Sports Complex on Sunday.

Shape began with a carryover of 12.5IMPs and won the first two sets 31-14 and 27-0, forcing their opponents to concede the match.

In the mixed pair event, Rana Roy and Pheroza Chotia emerged champions tallying 94.5 points. There was a tie for the second spot between Bimal Sicka/ R Kejriwal and Hema Deora/ JM Shah with the former prevailing.

MRA hearing adjourned

The hearing in the contempt motion filed against Maharashtra Rifle Association (MRA), its vice-president Ashok Pandit, secretary Sheila Kanungo and assistant secretary MA Torpe, has been adjourned to June 10, after the court holidays. During today’s hearing, the defendant (MRA) and the three respondents filed a reply to the plaintiff’s notice. The reply has denied the charges raised by plaintiff Mohammed I Khan, while issuing an unqualified apology to the court.
