Wasted Life
One of the ugly by-products of convenience oriented lifestyle is the amount of solid waste generated. While the awareness about these issues has been growing, there is no slowdown in the rate of growth of garbage and waste creation. Whatever reduction is being made by aware citizens, is being more than met by increase in population and rising consumerism in developing countries.
A site devoted to offering solutions to these problems is at learner.org/exhibits/garbage. The site gives frightening figures of solid waste generation. An average US resident for instance produces 1570 pounds of solid waste and 3613 pounds of sewage every years. Add up the population figures and one would think that the earth is full of garbage.
