Steve Waugh named Aussie captain
Steve Waugh was today named as Australia8217;s new Test cricket captain and he immediately promised to impose on his team a greater sense of ruthlessness then his predecessor did. Waugh, the 33-year-old all-rounder replaces Mark Taylor who retired from the international cricket last week, to become the 40th captain of Australia.

BP8217;s XI lead
Pakistani spinners Nadeem Khan and Shahid Afridi claimed five quick wickets after tea to restrict Board President8217;s XI to 282, a lead of 35, just as the home team propelled by J P Yadav8217;s 62 and Virender Sehwag8217;s quickfire 66 were going strong in the three-day match today. Pakistan, who declared their first innings closed at 247 for nine, were 27 for no loss in their second essay.

Australia currently lead the best of three series 1-0 after winning Wednesday8217;s opening match in Sydney by 10 runs.
