He was directed to be released on bail after furnishing a personal bond of Rs 20,000 along with a surety of a like amount.

quot;Supportersquot; of Harvinder Singh, accused of killing an S.A.S. Nagar resident Manjit Singh in the Sector 10 market, Gill was allegedly leading the mob which indulged in the firing.

Seeking his release on bail, the defence counsel had stated that the accused was being falsely implicated in the case. He was merely an innocent spectator, and not a part of the alleged unlawful assembly, the defence counsel said.

Gill, visiting the City during leave in his private car, was quot;empty-handedquot; and no weapon was recovered from him, it was added. Moreover, he could not be booked for attempt to murder as the shots were not aimed at anyone, nor was anyone injured in the firing, the defence counsel added.

Their intention to indulge in rioting was evident from the fact that the group did not disperse even when asked to, he added.
