The day after BCCI named him as chairman of the National Cricket Academy (NCA), without waiting to get his confirmation, former India captain and all-rounder Ravi Shastri today accepted the offer.

Shastri had accepted the offer in principle yesterday but wanted a day or two to look into his commitments before giving his final nod.

BCCI’s general body, on its president Sharad Pawar’s advice, had decided yesterday that Shastri was most suitable for the high-profile job, left vacant by the sacking of Kapil Dev, who had signed up with the breakaway Indian Cricket League.

BCCI officials confirmed today that Shastri had accepted the job after initially expressing apprehensions over whether he would be able to devote time to it. Bangalore-based NCA has two former Test cricketers associated with it in off spinner Shivlal Yadav and Lalchand Rajput.
