You have it good when you work for the Prime Minister. You can choose to go or not wherever, whenever. Take Joint Secretary in the PMO Jawed Usmani and the PM8217;s Private Secretary B V R Subrahmanyam as cases in point. They have been selected for a three-year assignment at the World Bank in Washington DC. The Finance Minister has approved their names and forwarded them to the Cabinet Secretariat. The names only need the OK of the Home Minister and the PM for finalisation. The duo will replace Raj Pratap Singh and Ajay Bisaria, both of whom were private secretaries to former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee. In the other category is Shaleen Kabra, whose five-year deputation to the Centre ended on August 25. One of the directors in the PMO, the vacancy arising out of Kabra8217;s going was advertised by the Department of Personnel 038; Training. But now open the website persmin.nic.in/offerlist/vacposas.asp, and the post is no longer listed as a forthcoming vacancy. Word is that since Kabra is getting six more months at the PMO, the DoPT had to perform the erasing act.
