Under pressure from political parties for failing to execute non-bailable warrants against RJD MP Mohammad Shahabuddin, Bihar DGP Ashish Ranjan Sinha today said he has ordered immediate arrest of the MP anywhere in the country.
Shahabuddin is presently in Delhi.
‘‘I have asked the Siwan SP to constitute a team and arrest the MP immediately,’’ Sinha said. Despite the warrants, Shahabuddin continued to move freely across Bihar, attend Parliament, even call on the Election Commission in Delhi. The DGP said he would adhere to the EC’s directive and jail all those with NBWs pending against them.
However, on being asked whether he has taken the necessary steps like alerting airports and the police across the country to ensure the arrest of the MP, Sinha refrained from a direct reply and said that he will be doing the needful.
The DGP only said that the MP was a known figure and that it would not be difficult for the police to identify him.
