Maharashtra Govt to declare reservation of PMC mayor post on Jan 22

The PMC mayor’s term is two-and-a-half years. In the previous term, the post was reserved for women for the first half, followed by the Open category for the remaining term.

“The reservation is in rotation. The previous reservation, which was in the Open category, is taken into account. Thus, this time it is likely to be reserved either for SC, ST, Women, and OBC categories,” said former BJP corporator Ujjwal Keskar.

Notably, women corporators outnumber men in the PMC, with 83 of the 165 seats reserved for women, and women also won several unreserved seats.

According to PMC, the first meeting of the general body will be convened 15 days after the reservation of the mayor’s post is declared by the state government, following which the elections for mayor and deputy mayor will be held.

The Maharashtra municipal corporation elections were held on January 15, and the results were declared on January 16.
