Maharashtra Govt to declare reservation of PMC mayor post on Jan 22

In the previous term, the PMC mayor post was reserved for women for the first half, followed by the Open category for the remaining term.

With the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) elections concluded, attention has now shifted to the January 22 lottery that will determine the reservation of the mayor’s post for the next five years.

Annirudha Jewlikar, Deputy Secretary, Maharashtra Urban Affairs Ministry, said the lottery for the post of mayor will be held in Mumbai in the presence of the state minister of Urban Affairs. “This process will ensure reservation of posts for all the 29 municipal corporations,” said Jewlikar.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged as the largest party, winning 119 of 165 seats in the Pune Municipal Corporation. The National Congress Party (NCP) won 27 seats, and its alliance partner NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) won three seats. The Congress has 15 corporators elected to the PMC, and its ally Shiv Sena (UBT) won one seat.
